Welcome to Session 1 of the Linguistics class

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The study of linguistics will provide ENL teachers as well as other teachers with the basic background knowledge and an understanding of how language works to interact with diverse students, mostly in a school setting. This course aims to offer an overview of linguistics as well as reflection on the implications in the classroom developing familiarity with linguistic terms and concepts. The goal is to provide an understanding of how language works, learn the fundamentals of linguistics; phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and finally to relate knowledge of English to other languages. The study of social and linguistic structures is imperative for teachers in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages.
