The Linguist List: major discussion list among linguists

LSA videos on the web: There are a good collection of videos in Quick time and Real media format. The clips on this archive deal with topics such as child language acquisition, language variation, grammar, etc.

Linguistic Laboratory: presents latest research, has great resources, plenty of color maps showing vowel pronunciation.

Dialects: This website has everything you wanted to know about dialects

The International Dialects of English Archive: This website contains information on and recordings of the different dialects and accents of English from all over the world. Click on the right labelled Dialects & Accents and pick a country of your choice and listen to the recordings.

Digital Dialects ~ This site offers a way of learning the language by seeing and hearing basic words being spoken in different dialects!
The content is in game format which students can really enjoy. Some are just matching text to picture and vice versa, but everything on this website is vocabulary driven and has the nonverbal piece. It is great that the audio can be turned on or off so that students can read the word aloud independently. Since 90% of what ELL students learn is nonverbal, then this site will really help.

SlangSite:This website has a dictionary of slang, webspeak, made up words, and colloquialisms.

MultiTree is a searchable database of hypotheses on language relationships. It compares language trees and access bibliographical information on them...

Symbols in language - Native American symbols are part of their language. To many of us the symbols would not mean anything, but to Native Americans they mean a great deal.

The Speech Accent Archive - This is a link to a very interesting, interactive site developed by the linguistics department at George Mason University. You can browse scores of compiled accents -- native and non-native English speakers were asked to read the same paragraph, and then were transcribed using IPA. It's useful as a comparative and analytical tool, and of course it's fun, too! - an online flashcard site, where you can make your own lists and then there are different activities and games that students can play to help learn the new words.

Foreign Accent Syndrome - Language and our brain ~ this video talks about a women who had a brain injury and is now speaking with a different accent and sometimes even new languages.
